Let Me Introduce Myself…….
Hi! I am Aletha Noelle Israels an artist and gallery director and soon to be wifey. I love to create, as you will see I am inspired by color and pattern. I believe we all have a basic human need for pattern and decoration, and there sure is a long history to support that idea. This is my personal blog, here you will find my creative endeavored and the things that inspire them as well and tips and tricks I have learned along the way. You will see that many of the pieces on my site are for sale, please contact me via email with any question you about purchasing, ordering, or commissioning a custom piece.
I am fascinated with what seems to be a basic human need for ornamentation. Color and pattern have become a cultural demand and sign of civilization. There is, and historically has been, an aesthetic undercurrent in society to adorn everyday objects and environments with decorative elements that do not contribute to the objects practical or symbolic function. Often, objects and images are intended to seduce their viewer based on purely aesthetic appeal. My paintings reconstruct color, pattern and forms based on consumer products into kaleidoscopic environments. My paintings exploit a visual language that is used to decorate our homes and literally worn on our sleeve. In borrowing patterns from visual culture the viewer is provided with a sense of familiarity when viewing the work. As an artist, I take what already exists in the world and reconfigure it, in order to reflect our current place and time. As a culture we make very specific aesthetic demands on all objects and environments. It is my hope that my paintings will adopt this aesthetic and walk the line of being seen as mere decorative objects and that of high art objects.
